My name is Amber Mansfield (legally) but I go by my middle name, Scarlett Mansfield. I have a master’s in History from St Antony’s College at the University of Oxford. I completed my undergraduate (BA Hons in History) at the University of Warwick.
I have worked a freelance writer, editor, and researcher since February 2017. During this time, I have worked for a wide range of clients. I have conducted archival research for the Canadian History channel, worked on Excel spreadsheets for Dr Mara Keire of Oxford, created a powerpoint for an Iraqi card company, edited long-distance walking guides, crafted intellectual comments for a news-based startup, and researched grants for a Middle-eastern satirical magazine (to name a few)!
I am able to competently and quickly complete any work assigned to me, even if I have never heard of the topic before. Part of this I put down to my education – I am used to having to learn and research into areas that I previously have never heard of. As a result, I excel at finding out where to seek answers and how to comprehend information both quickly and efficiently. Check out my testimonials for proof!
When it comes to work experience outside of my time freelancing, I have worked as Research & Evaluation Co-ordinator at the mental health charity Suffolk Mind. I researched and created questionnaires for longitudinal mental health evaluation projects. I also had to conduct qualitative & quantitative research, analyse & evaluate resulting data, and report on the progress of each service provided by Suffolk Mind.
I also have a lot of knowledge about how different brands like to market themselves and what really works. This is owing to my work experience as a brand ambassador for companies such as the Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds Bank, STA Travel, University of Warwick, Kinder Chocolate, Café Rouge, and Xbox. In this capacity, my roles varied – from encouraging internship applications through lecture shout-outs and targeted e-mail campaigns to making active sales and increasing general brand awareness. This job encouraged innovation and creative thinking to make the brand stand out from competitors and built on my sales experience.
